Happy Wednesday, Roseville! Let’s get you all caught up to start today off on an informed note.
Let’s get to it!
But first, you need to know about today’s weather: Temperatures are expected to hold steady today with a high around 94 degrees and a low this evening of 59. Winds remain about 5-10 mph and humidity should remain about 40%-52%.
Here are the top stories today in Roseville:
- Voter registration data from the past 12 months shows that an influx of new residents and increased diversity are shifting voter demographics in Placer County. Although Republican voters still have have a significant majority in the region, the electorate is seeing a shift as the margin between Republican and Democrat voters narrowed to 9.83 percent, in comparison with 23 percent in 2006. The county saw 25,000 new voter registrations in the reporting period from June 2020 to July 2021. (Roseville Today)
- Our local mall is adding to your summer fun as the Galleria at Roseville presents Summertime Cinema on the Promenade. Beginning this Friday, with a showing of Moana, the evenings include special gifts, treats, and a secret guest. VIP seating is available with a $10 ticket. Snow cones from Kona Ice and fresh popcorn from NorCal Popcorn will be available for purchase. The Lego Movie will be shown on Friday, July 23 and The Croods: A New Age will be shown on Friday, July 30. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Placer County. (Westfield Galleria)
- City crews have been hard at work this summer resurfacing bumpy, crumbly Roseville streets in need of repair. Beginning tomorrow, please be alert and travel with care while navigating two major corridors slated for resurfacing: Vernon Street between Douglas Boulevard and Cirby Way (weekdays, 8:00 am-4:00 pm) and Eureka Road between Douglas and Sierra College Boulevard (weekdays, 7:00 am-3:00 pm). (City of Roseville)
- Last week in the Roseville Daily, you learned about a Citizen’s Academy offered by the Placer County District Attorney’s Office where community leaders could learn more about the inner workings of our local law enforcement. For those of you more interested in crime fighting on the federal level, our local Federal Bureau of Investigation Field Office is also offering a Citizen’s Academy beginning in September. The sessions require a commitment of seven weeks with a three-hour class once per week. Nominations are being accepted up to August 6. (FBI)
- Watersport enthusiasts may lament the low water levels at Folsom Lake, but history buffs are getting an opportunity to explore the ruins of a Gold Rush era town exposed by the drought. Mormon Island was settled in the 1840s and ceased to exist when it was flooded by the creation of Folsom Dam in 1955. Visitors to the area on the southeastern side of the lake, near Browns Ravine, can now see building foundations, bricks, pottery and nails that once belonged to the lost community. Please take only photos with you if you visit the site so others can enjoy this trip back in time. (FOX 40 Sacramento)
