Falcons Head to Colorado Invitational

The Air Force track and field team remains a little closer to home this weekend, as the majority of the team heads to Boulder for the Colorado Invitational on April 9-10. Senior Tyler Gurchiek and junior Wyatt Murphy kick off the week tomorrow (April 8) with the first day of competition at the Jim Click Decathlon in Tucson.
 
MEET INFORMATION | JIM CLICK DECATHLON
The Jim Click Decathlon, which features athletes from Air Force, Arizona, BYU, California, Oregon, Texas Tech and Washington, will be held at the University of Arizona’s Roy P. Drachman Stadium on Thursday, April 8, and Friday, April 9. A limited number of spectators, restricted to family members of the competitors, will be allowed to attend. MEET INFORMATION | COLORADO INVITATIONAL
The Colorado Invitational, which includes Front Range teams from Air Force, Colorado, Colorado School of Mines, Colorado State, Northern Colorado and Wyoming, will be held April 9-10 at Potts Field on the University of Colorado’s East Campus. Events are set to begin at 10:00 a.m. (MT) each day. A complete schedule is listed below. The meet is not open to the public, but live results will be available at cubuffs.com/tracklive (a direct link is available on the Falcons’ schedule page).
 
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS | AIR FORCE EVENTS ONLY
FRIDAY – 10:00 a.m.: Women’s Pole Vault, followed by Men’s Pole Vault; 10:00 a.m.: Men’s Javelin Throw, followed by Women’s Javelin Throw; 10:00 a.m.: Women’s High Jump; 10:00 a.m.: Men’s Long Jump, followed by Women’s Long Jump; 1:00 p.m.: Men’s Discus Throw; SATURDAY – 10:00 a.m.: Men’s Shot Put; 10:00 a.m.: Women’s Hammer Throw, followed by Men’s Hammer Throw; 10:00 a.m.: 3000-Meter Run, followed by 3000-Meter Steeplechase, 1500-Meter Run, 100-/110-Meter Hurdles, 400-Meter Dash, 100-Meter Dash, 800-Meter Run, 400-Meter Hurdles, 200-Meter Dash; 12:00 p.m.: Men’s Triple Jump (women compete first in all running events).
 
AIR FORCE IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Two Falcons hold top-25 rankings in the NCAA standings, as Braeden Holcombe is ranked 12th in the decathlon (6593) and Mahala Norris is listed 24th in the 1500-meter run (3:46.89). Five other Falcons are ranked within the top 40, as Brian Hubbard is ranked 33rd in the decathlon (5671), Katie Thompson is listed 37th in the heptathlon (4411), Sam Gilman is ranked 38th in the 1500-meter run (3:45.53) and the pole vault duo of Ethan Gardner and Greg Skage are tied for 39th with matching clearances of 16’10¾”.
 
COMING UP
After dividing its squad for multiple meets over the last three weeks, Air Force will split for the same competition – the West Coast Classic – on April 17. The sprinter and jumpers will head to Tucson, Ariz., for their half of the meet, while the distance runners and throwers will travel to Eugene, Ore., – and the newly renovated Hayward Field – for the other half of the meet.
