The Rome Free Academy girls lacrosse team improved to 5-0 on the season and head coach Doug Rowe picked up his 400th career win on Saturday when the Black Knights defeated visiting Cazenovia, 7-6.
Danielle D’Aiuto added two goals and an assist for the Black Knights. Jace Hunzinger also scored two goals for RFA. Alyssa Nardslico scored a goal and had two assists, Isabella Sanzone also scored a goal and Shannen Calandra also added a goal.
Alana Iacovissi made four saves for RFA, who’s back on the field on Thursday when they travel to Whitesboro.
RFA boys lax falls
The RFA boys lacrosse team trailed Skaneateles 3-2 after a quarter Saturday on the road. But their offense sputtered and they lost 11-4.
Keshawn Clark scored twice for RFA. Jared Hussey scored and had two assists. The other goal was scored by Peter Sciortino.
Treaver Ford made seven saves in net for RFA.
Skaneateles used a 6-1 second quarter for a 9-3 lead.
RFA next plays on Wednesday, May 19, when the Black Knights host Holland Patent at 4:30 p.m. at RFA Stadium.
Whitesboro falls to New Hartford
In another boys lacrosse game, New Hartford rolled past Whitesboro, 20-1, on Monday.
Peter Liotta scored the lone goal for Whitesboro.
Will Hilton tallied four goals and an assist for the Spartans, Peter Colburn scored four goals, Dan Friedel scored three times and assisted on five more goals. Anthony Campola scored twice and had two assists.
In goal, Ryan Quinn made 13 saves for the Warriors and Dash Lamitie made six saves for New Hartford.
Whitesboro plays again on Saturday when they visit Vernon-Verona-Sherrill at 11 a.m.
VVS defeated at Chittenango
Logan Vanderhoof scored three goals for the VVS boys lacrosse team, but it fell 16-7 to host Chittenango on Monday.
Keaton Fox and James Wheeler both added a goal for the Red Devils, who play again on Saturday when they host Whitesboro at 11 a.m.
Clinton girls lax falls at New Hartford
The Clinton girls lacrosse team lost 19-11 at New Hartford Saturday.
Mia Lopata scored four times for Clinton and had an assist. Alexis Altera had a hat trick.
Katelynn Deveans and Chelsea Lopata each had a goal and an assist. Claire Baron and Ava Alteri added a goal each.
In net for the Warriors, Angelina Borowiec made nine saves and Elise Mozloom made four.
New Harford was led by Ilana Mccarthy with six goals. Sophia Campola scored four times and added two assists. Maia Herring had a hat trick for the Spartans.
Emily Picolla made eight saves for the Spartans in goal.
Clinton was schedule to travel to Immaculate Heart Central in Watertown Monday.
Whitesboro girls’ big second half powers win
The Whitesboro girls lacrosse team got a 13-4 road win at Chittenango Saturday.
The Warriors held a 6-4 lead at the half but outscored the Bears 7-0 in the second half to pull away.
Gracie Stuhlman had a hat trick and two assists for the Warriors, who improved to 2-0 on the season. Danielle Lachacz had a hat trick and an assist. Also scorign twice were Ashley Williams and Madison Keida. Meredith Dicks and Maria Stuhlman had a goal and an assist each. Rylie Fischer also scored. Gianna Parise added two assists.
In net for Whitesboro, Becky Thomas made eight saves.
Whitesboro plays at 4:15 p.m. at New Hartford today.
Clinton wins Junkyard Relays; RFA second
The Clinton boys and girls track teams won the Junkyard relays Friday in Clinton.
RFA took second in both meets. Camden was third in the boys meet and South Lewis fourth. South Lewis took third in the girls meet with Camden fourth.
RFA’s Emily Toth-Ratazzi set a new school record in the 1,500-meter race at 4:40.1, a record previously held by Marian Draper at 4:44.2.
The next meet for RFA is today at Camden for both teams.
RFA falls to Whitesboro
In a Tri-Valley League golf match, the RFA boys team fell to Whitesboro, 198-242, at Hidden Valley Golf Course.
For RFA, the medalist was Michael Occhipinti, shooting a 44. Joseph Mooney shot a 47 for the Black Knights and Jon Denton added a 48.
For Whitesboro, Chris Stilwell shot a 32 and Joe DePasquale added a 39. Jake Coughlin and Cooper Faughmen shot 42s and Sam Schoen finished with a 43. Logan Lachacz had a 44.
RFA is back on the course on Friday when they visit Oneida at 3:30 p.m.
Whitesboro is back in action on Friday when they visit Notre Dame at 3:30 p.m.
RFA golfers outshoot CVA
The RFA boys golf team beat Central Valley Academy 257 to 287 at Rome Country Club Friday.
Michael Occhipinti and Jon Denton both shot 46 for RFA. Other scores were Joseph Mooney, 53; Tyler Wilson, 56; Brody Barrett, 56; and Sam Wilson, 58.
Oriskany remains unbeaten
The Oriskany boys golf team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 171-202 Center State Conference win over Clinton on Monday at Crestwood Golf Club.
Patrick Maher and Nick DeRiso took home medalist honors for the Redskins, both shooting a 40.
Clinton’s Anthony Ritz shot a 47 to earn the honors for the 1-2 Warriors.
Oriskany is back on the course on Wednesday when they host Holland Patent. Clinton returns to action also on Wednesday when they visit Waterville.
Westmo picks up road win
Austin Millington shot a 1-over par 36 for the Westmoreland boys golf team as they beat Canastota 184-283 on Monday at Kanon Valley Country Club.
Jeremy Riggles added a 45 for the Bulldogs and Trevor Nelson shot a 48. Jacob Ingersoll added a 54 for the 2-3 Bulldogs.
For Canastota, Kyle Evans earned the medalist with a 69.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Monday, May 17, at 3:30 p.m. when they visit Holland Patent.
VVS tennis drops match to New Hartford
In a boys tennis match on Monday, New Hartford beat VVS, 3-2 at VVS’ home courts.
It was the season-opening match for the Red Devils, who won their doubles matches.
The winning teams were Manuel Lavesa-Cesana and Jack Mitchell and Trent Klis and Nolan Robinson.
VVS is back on the court today when they travel to Central Valley Academy.
Camden shut out
The Camden boys tennis team was shut out by host Mexico, 5-0 on Monday.
The Blue Devils are 0-3 on the season and take the court again on Wednesday when they visit Whitesboro.
Musch powers Camden to softball win
Kendall Musch homered and drove in five runs for the Camden softball team as they defeated Notre Dame, 16-3 on Monday in Camden.
Kendall Musch also doubled, as did Holland Hawkes, Kaitlyn Findlay and Brooke Musch.
Jayden Prievo recorded three hits and four RBI for the Blue Devils.
Avery Prievo tripled twice and earned the win in the circle for Camden, tossing a complete game, giving up three runs, two earned, on nine hits while walking five and striking out six.
Camden moves to 2-1 on the season and takes the field again on Thursday when they travel to VVS for a 4:30 p.m. start.
Wildcats hang on
The Adirondack softball squad scored 10 runs within the first and second innings to beat visiting Sauquoit Valley 13-12 on Monday.
Game stats were unavailable.
The Wildcats are back on the field on Wednesday when they host Cooperstown at 4:30 p.m.
Oriskany drops CSC matchup
In another softball game, Oriskany dropped a CSC game to visiting West Canada Valley, 5-1.
Juliette Tagliaferi took the loss in the circle, throwing a complete game, striking out seven, walking two and giving up five hits.
Phelan Shannon and Jordan Carlo were 2-for-4 at the plate for the Redskins. Shannon doubled for Oriskany.
Oriskany is back on the field on Wednesday when they visit Herkimer at 4:30 p.m.
