Regular season high school football in the state of Iowa kicks off this weekend and Iowa commits in the 2022, 2023, and 2024 commits will all be on the field.
This includes in-state commits and out-of-state commits will also be on the field.
Let’s look at where Iowa’s in-state and out-of-state commits will be playing this weekend.
2022
DE Aaron Graves – vs. Interstate 35
Southeast Valley will kick off the regular season against Interstate 35, Truro.
Last week, the Jaguars had a scrimmage against East Sac.
In the 2020 season, Southeast Valley finished one game short of the UNI-Dome and are hoping to get revenge in Class 2A this fall. Graves finished the season with 50.5 total tackles, 18.5 tackles for a loss, and 8.5 sacks.
OL Kale Krogh – at Bondurant-Farrar
The Bombers will start the regular season on the road.
Krogh, who picked Iowa over Minnesota, should be one of the top offensive linemen in the state of Iowa this fall.
RB Jaziun Patterson – vs. Edison
Iowa’s newest commit in the 2022 class will start his senior season on Friday.
Patterson and Deerfield Beach (Fla.) played in a jamboree last weekend and are looking forward to getting revenge at a state championship.
In a shortened 2020 season, Patterson ran for 53 carries for 511 yards and seven touchdowns.
WR Jacob Bostick – at St. Charles North
After playing this spring, Palatine (Ill.) and Iowa three-star wide receiver commit Jacob Bostick will start the 2021 regular season on Friday night.
Bostick finished his junior campaign with 31 receptions, 451 yards, and nine touchdowns in six games.
OL Jack Dotzler – at Middleton
Waunakee (Wis.) started the regular season last week off right with a 35-6 win over Madison Memorial.
Dotzler and the Warriors will travel to Middleton this Friday for their first road game of the season.
QB Carson May – vs. Bethany
Iowa three-star quarterback commit Carson May and the Longhorns of Jones (OK) will start their regular season on Friday at home against Bethany.
Last season, May completed 219-of-364 passes for 3,007 yards, 26 touchdowns, and five interceptions while rushing for 650 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Jones will be one of the top teams in Oklahoma this fall.
LB Jayden Montgomery – vs. Notre Dame Academy
Montgomery and his Green Bay (Wis.) Bay Port team picked up their first win of the season last week against Middleton, 26-14.
Bay Port will travel to Notre Dame Academy this Friday night.
TE Addison Ostrenga – vs. Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln
After picking up a week one win over Hudson, Sun Prairie (Wis.) and Ostrenga will take on Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln at home.
Ostrenga is once again playing both offense and defense this fall for Sun Prairie.
In the season-opener, Ostrenga had two receptions for 24 yards with four total tackles and a forced fumble.
2023
DL Maddux Borcherding-Johnson – vs. Pella
In his first game as an Iowa commit, Norwalk three-star defensive lineman Maddux Borcherding-Johnson will take on Pella in week one.
As a sophomore, Borcherding-Johnson finished with 31 solo tackles, 8.5 tackles for a loss, two sacks, and an interception.
2024
OL Cody Fox – at Highland Riverside
The first commit in Iowa’s 2024 will kick off his senior season on Friday night on the road.
Fox committed to Iowa this summer after earning an offer at camp. He will play both offense and defense for East Buchanan.
LB/ATH Cam Buffington – vs. Moravia
The second commit in the 2024 class for Iowa was Cam Buffington from Winfield-Mount Union.
Buffington also earned an offer from Iowa in camp and committed to the Hawkeyes a month later. Buffington plays both running back and linebacker for his 8-man team, but will play linebacker at Iowa.
As a freshman, Buffington had 114 carries for 956 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns. On defense, he recorded 50.5 total tackles, 38 solo tackles, and one interception that he returned for a touchdown.
